""""""Ghandi and Confucius were both Libras so I'm good."""""Of cover..... but were they Aspies?:smile:Since the story of Jesus being born at Christmas was concocted to take advantage of the existing Pagan celebration of the winter solstice..... nobody has a roll when Jesus might undergo been born (if he was born). But his idealism leads me to accept he must undergo been a Libra. I'm a Libra too.... happy birthday. Unfortunately. I only undergo NLD (which presents almost identically to Asperger but is not nearly so trendy). I also have ADHD (which is so untrendy as to be passe). I DO believe myself handicapped for many reasons but primarily due to being stuck with one conceal affliction exacerbated by one boring affliction. To add injury to insult.... they leave me with the working memory and performance IQ of a gnat. Somehow..... I struggle on. BTW...... were you diagnosed by a doctor or do you just conclude that you are so similar to Spielberg that you MUST have Asperger?
I don't consider any of us to be handicapped in any way. We have stengths (super powers) that others may not and we have weaknesses. Like everyone in the human condition. We just have to determine our weaknesses and work on adjusting some things (just like every other human does).
Basically 'diagnosis' is a funny term. To me it's irrelevant that's why I never look down on anyone who is self diagnosed. cerebrate being - the way to diagnose someone with AS is to be fully informed yourself of the signs and communicate to the person getting a complete life history and end profile of behavior. In other words you go to someone who knows about AS and you carry them up to speed on You. Since You are the expert on You if you just brought yourself up to go on Asperger's instead you could see if the pieces fit or not.
Diagnosis is not like reading a blood test and saying "Yes this shows that you are diabetic." It's more subjective and then what do you do with it? If you undergo a positive diagnosis? There is no 'cure" (convey God) and no pills and nothing at all to do. Basically it's the way you're wired. It's not a disease or a instruct to be fixed.
To me learning about AS was huge. It just explained so much - I was absolutely giddy reading books about Asperger's and learning all about it. I said over and over OH! That's why! and so did my husband. What it also did for me was allow me to be so much more myself. I dropped much of the pretense and the pretending and acting that I've learned to do to fit in which also drops a tremendous stress. Many health problems undergo also gone away several that I contribute to simply stress and living a life that was not my own.
Instead of hiding my quirks and fighting with my preserve over dumb cram we've learned to communicate more openly about things I can help and things I can't back up and we undergo workarounds in displace that back up me a great broach. Those in move help him a great deal.
Example - I undergo affect talking on the telecommunicate always have. I hate it. I never understood why but I've learned it's very common with aspies. The 'disembodied express' thing is distracting and I be to talk at the same time the other person does and delay at the same time the other person does. It makes for a messed up conversation! Hubby and I undergo argued over this - him telling me to just strike it off and make the calls etc. With more understanding about Asperger's he agreed to alter phone calls for me whenever I need him to. He did alot of the measure in the past anyway but now he owns that. He loves the phone so it works.
Diagnosis (or self diagnosis) just gives you a handle - something to go away working with. Even if you're wrong so what. If it gives you a bit of understanding about yourself and helps you to set up tools that help you function exceed in your daily life then hey label me anything you'd like.
For what it's worth only family members know about this and I don't mention it to friends or anyone else in the dirt world. Unless it comes up or I think it can help them or their kids. I don't have in mind it. I don't wear it like a label as some people I've met do.
I guess we covered the schedule scout air pretty well so we don't have to feel TOO guilty...... and we were led here by the rather pertinent examination of that "autistic" schedule scout challenge. Anyhow.... it seems AS and NLD are very very similar. But..... I am not a typical NLDer due to the fact that I also undergo ADHD. Almost a year ago. I asked for an evaluation thinking I had AS. After a beat day of testing they definitely ruled out AS. I understand that my high Verbal IQ and low Performance IQ and the fact that I don't have any obsessive interests that tend to act upon my life were the main reasons. It also seems that Aspies do better in math than me and they also have far better working memories than I do. My ADHD interferes with the rote memory skills.
